Veterinary waste
collection

Animal sharps, pharmaceuticals and anatomical waste from practices, clinics and mobile vets across Pretoria.

The same rules, a different patient

Waste that has been in contact with blood, body fluids or tissue from infected animals falls within health care risk waste. In practice a veterinary theatre produces much the same streams as a human one — sharps, anatomical waste, pharmaceuticals and contaminated soft waste — and needs the same disposal route.

Anatomical waste needs planning

Surgical and anatomical waste has tighter storage timeframes than sharps, and it needs to move rather than sit. If your practice does regular surgical work, the collection frequency has to be built around that stream rather than around the sharps volume, which is the mistake we most often see on existing arrangements.

Cytotoxics kept separate

Practices doing oncology work generate cytotoxic waste, which is documented and handled as its own stream rather than going in with general clinical. We set that up as a separate container from day one so nobody has to make a judgement call at the bin.
